I’ve been teaching and learning in Room 213 for almost thirty years. It feels odd writing that because it just seems like yesterday that I was a new teacher, full of passion and ideas.
I still am. But now, I have a much better idea of how to engage kids in learning without making myself crazy at the same time. I see teaching as an art and a science, and over the years I’ve experimented and tweaked, keeping what worked and changing things that didn’t.
And now, it’s my great pleasure to share what I’ve learned with you. I know what it’s like to be overwhelmed. I know what it’s like to spend my weekend grading and planning instead of resting and recharging. After too many years of giving too much of myself – it’s ok to say that you don’t have to do that – I decided to focus on finding ways to be an effective teacher that also has a life. It’s been a whole lot of fun ever since I made that switch.
Now I create lessons for teachers for Teachers Pay Teachers, and I share my strategies right here on my blog. And I just love knowing that I’m able to give some of you a few more hours in your day.
